Bike Lee Highway

There are tons of ways to bike the communities and visit the businesses along Lee Highway without actually riding on the highway!

Thanks to Bike Arlington, Lee Highway now has its very own bike map that highlights some of the major routes that help cyclists and families find a low stress way to ride to the major commercial hubs and communities in the area, access local bikes trails, and enjoy some outside time at Lee Highway's parks.

What Can You Find Along the Bike Route?

Cyclists can easily connect to two of Arlington’s best bike trails – the Martha Custis Trail and the Washington & Old Dominion Trail (W&OD)– from Lee Highway. The W&OD Trail begins in Shirlington, just off I-395 Exit 6 and ends out in rural Purcellville, VA. It’s a great trail to take you through the Northern VA counties and is paved with nine ft wide asphalt, has a painted yellow center line, and a parallel horse trail along much of the trail. Unlike the W&OD, the Custis Trail is not a Trail-to-Trail conversion. As a result, cyclists

can expect to encounter a few moderate climbs and winding turns over the trail’s four-mile length. The trail is also a very useful way for cyclists to get to downtown DC on a bike in a quick and safe way.
Lyon Village Shopping Center is home to a number of Lee Highway favorites. After picking up supplies from CVS or takeout from BGR: The Burger Joint, cyclists can make a stop at The Italian Store for some pizza or pasta, visit Starbucks for a cup of coffee, or drop off some laundry at the Cleaners.
Hop on your bike for a visit to the Cherrydale Shops, a hub for floral and yoga lovers alike. After taking a yoga class at Sun and Moon Yoga, visit Company Flowers for a beautiful arrangement to take home, and grab some sushi from Genji Ramen and Sushi Bar.

The Lee Heights Shops have a multitude of amazing options to choose from. From French cuisine at the newly opened Café Colline, books and games for kids at Child’s Play, and treats from Pastries by Randolph, to stylish clothing at Lemoncello, pet treats and toys from Woofgang Bakery, and tasty food from Chipotle, Crisp & Juicy, and Arrowine & Cheese, cyclists and their families will not be disappointed!
Woodstock Park, right next to the Lee Heights Shops, is a fantastic option for Arlington residents to enjoy a day outside. Enjoy the small 1 and 1/4 acre grassy area complete with water fountains, a playground, and a drop-in basketball court.
High View Park, a three-acre park located just off Lee Highway, offers Arlington residents a plethora of fields, a picnic area, playground, charcoal grills, lighted basketball courts, a rock-climbing wall, a baseball/softball field, and bleachers and an amphitheater. The park is an awesome place for cyclists to take their families for a summertime picnic and outdoor activities – all while social distancing!

Stop by Lee Harrison Shopping Center, the popular Lee Highway neighborhood shopping center, where cyclists can grab a slice from Pie-Tanza, snag some goodies to bring home at Sushi-Zen, pick up Taqueria el Poblano’s famous margarita recipe, or drop off kids at Kumon Learning Center for a tutoring session.

Lee Highway Plaza is another fantastic options for cyclists and families to enjoy a day out. If considering a home revamp, take a trip to Potomac Paint for some samples. On the way out, grab some Mexican cuisine from District Taco or BBQ from Sloppy Mama's BBQ, and visit Lee Arts Center with the family to check out one of their many workshops and displays.
The shops along Lee Highway in Falls Church have fantastic stores for bookworms and food lovers. Stop by One More Page Books, Lee Highway's go to book shop offering novels for people of all ages. On your way home, visit La Cote d'Or to enjoy some delicious French cuisine.
